Plainly known as HCCI (Homogeneous charge compression ignition). The details will be known after the Frankfurt conference in late August.
HCCI technology brings gasoline engines closer to the diesel working principle. This concept will work in a similar way to diesel as compressing air and fuel in the cylinder until combustion occurs.
At low speed SkyActiv II will continue to use sparks to cause combustion, and at higher speeds, it will switch to HCCI technology.
Mazda said the engine would be 30% more efficient than the current petrol engines.
This type of engines will be found in the next generation of the Mazda 3, and will later be extended to other models.
Mazda could be the first company to introduce a vehicle with a HCCI engine.
